Services:

I provide private, one-on-one reading and writing instruction and support for elementary and middle school-aged public, private and homeschool students.  The instruction and support I offer is for beginning readers or for students who are challenged by reading and need some level of intervention.  I do not provide enrichment for high achieving students.  Sessions take place in my home in Lafayette, California.

While research indicates that the most effective format for tutoring is at least twice a week, the frequency and length of your student’s sessions can be tailored to whatever works best for you and your family.  Sessions can be 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length.  

Pricing:

Sessions cost $80 per hour and are due in advance for the month.  ($60 for a 45 minute session and $40 for a 30 minute session.)  I accept payment through Venmo or personal check.  I am an authorized vendor with Visions in Education and Compass Charter Schools and can accept voucher payments from these organizations.  Regardless of how you pay, I will provide you with a monthly accounting of lessons received and payments made for your records.

Cancellation Policy:

If you need to cancel your session, please give me at least 48 hours advance notice.  Sessions canceled with less than 48 hours notice will be charged the full amount.  This advance notice will give me the opportunity to offer the slot to anyone who might want an additional session.  Additionally, no-shows will be charged the full amount of the session.

If you need to cancel due to illness or another unforeseen event (like a car that will not start), you will NOT be charged unless you are doing so regularly.  I reserve the right to define the term “regularly.”  Thank you for understanding that I spend more time on your child than the time I spend face-to-face with them (prep, set-up, clean-up, etc.) and thank you for respecting my time.

Scheduling:

During the school year, morning and early afternoon sessions are reserved for homeschool students.  Sessions beginning at 3:00 pm and later are reserved for public and private school students.  During the summer I only offer tutoring sessions before lunch for all students.  This allows me to spend some time with my own kids.

I run my tutoring calendar, more or less, on the Acalanes Union High School District calendar so that I am off on days my son is off.  I always send reminders for days off in case your student's school runs on a different calendar.

Additional Information:

Tucker the dog will remain closed in a back room during tutoring.  He sheds.  A lot.  No matter how much I vacuum there is always dog hair around.  If your student has a pet allergy it might be a good idea for them to have some allergy medicine before their lesson.
